Few performance convertibles make a statement quite like the BMW G83 M4 Competition xDrive. Powered by BMW’s 3.0-liter S58 TwinPower Turbo inline-six engine, the M4 Competition xDrive produces a serious 503 horsepower and 479 lb-ft (650 Nm) of torque, sent through an 8-speed M Steptronic transmission to BMW’s M xDrive all-wheel-drive system. With launch control engaged, it sprints from 0-60 mph in just 3.4 seconds (0-100 km/h in 3.5 seconds), and top speed climbs to 180 mph (290 km/h) with the M Driver’s Package. Add in the M-tuned chassis, adaptive M suspension, and that polarizing oversized kidney grille, and you have one of the most capable performance open-top vehicles BMW has ever built. It looks fast standing still, and the numbers back up the stylinc
This particular M4 Competition rolled into our Los Angeles detailing facility, finished in striking Toronto Red Metallic, a color that demands long-term protection to stay this vivid. The owner wanted a build that combined comprehensive paint and surface protection with a tasteful round of carbon fiber and motorsport-inspired visual upgrades. The end result is an M4 that looks meaner, drives sharper, and is properly armored against everything Southern California roads can throw at it. Just what we like and just what the customer wanted.
The protection foundation began with XPEL Ultimate Plus paint protection film (PPF) applied across the entire front end, extending to the rocker panels and the windshield frame. These are the zones that take the most abuse on any high-performance convertible, especially one with the M4’s aggressive low-slung front fascia and aero ducts that act like funnels for highway debris.
XPEL Ultimate Plus is the gold standard in clear paint protection film for a reason. The film offers exceptional self-healing properties that allow minor swirl marks and surface scratches to disappear when exposed to heat, whether from sunlight or warm water. It also resists yellowing over time, so the Toronto Red underneath stays as vibrant in year five as it is on day one. The rocker panel extension is a smart call on the M4, since the wide fenders increase rock chip risk on any vehicle running staggered performance tires, and the windshield frame addition prevents the chipping that BMW M owners frequently report along the leading edge of the roof.
Next, the team installed XPEL Prime XR Plus ceramic window tint, the brand’s flagship nano-ceramic film. Prime XR Plus rejects up to 98% of infrared heat and blocks 99% of harmful UV rays, resulting in a noticeably cooler cabin during California summers and significantly less interior fading over time. The M4 Competition’s leather sport seats and carbon trim pieces benefit directly from the UV blocking, while the driver enjoys reduced eye strain and a more comfortable cabin climate without compromising visibility.
Unlike traditional metallic tints, Prime XR Plus is non-reflective and signal-friendly, so phone reception, GPS, and the M4’s onboard tech all function without interference. The shade selection complements the Toronto Red exterior beautifully, deepening the convertible’s visual aggression without going so dark as to compromise outward visibility.
Before any ceramic chemistry was applied to the paint, the surface received a high-gloss polish to enhance the paint. This step removed light swirl marks, water spot etching, and the surface haze that even brand-new vehicles often carry from transit and dealer prep. The result is a mirror-deep finish that lets the metallic flake in the Toronto Red truly come alive under direct light.
With the paint corrected, the team applied a professional-grade ceramic coating known for exceptional gloss, slickness, and longevity. The Infinite system delivers strong hydrophobic performance, meaning water beads up and rolls off the paint instantly, taking road grime, brake dust, and contaminants with it. Beyond the cosmetic benefits, the coating provides a durable chemical barrier against tree sap, bird droppings, bug acids, and the kind of industrial fallout that’s unavoidable on Los Angeles streets. Maintenance washes become faster, and the paint stays slick to the touch for years.
With protection handled, the build shifted to the visual transformation. The owner specified a coordinated package of carbon fiber and M Performance accents that sharpen the M4’s already aggressive presence without going overboard.
Up front, a Vorsteiner carbon-fiber motorsport grille replaces the factory grille mesh, giving the controversial kidney design a serious motorsport edge, with exposed weave that catches light beautifully against the red paint. Below the headlights, an AutoTecknic carbon fiber lower vent set adds further detail to the front fascia, tying the lower aero elements into the carbon theme. The headlights themselves received the CSL LED daytime running light upgrade, which swaps the standard white DRLs for the same striking yellow signature found on the limited-production M4 CSL. It’s a small change that delivers an outsized visual impact, especially in low light.
Along the flanks, M Performance fender garnishes replace the factory side trim, adding a more aggressive, body-colored accent that emphasizes the M4’s wide hips. The hood and trunk now wear the BMW Heritage roundel emblem set, swapping the modern blue-and-white roundels for the classic motorsport-era design that pays homage to BMW’s racing heritage. It’s a subtle nod that enthusiasts will catch immediately.
Out back, a Vorsteiner carbon-fiber rear diffuser dominates the lower bumper, paired with an AutoTecknic carbon-fiber rear-diffuser trim set for added detail and visual cohesion with the front. Together, the rear elements give the M4 a more track-focused profile and balance the carbon weave from front to back. To finish the stance, 12mm wheel spacers push the wheels closer to the fender edges, eliminating the factory tucked-in look and giving the car a flush, planted appearance that better matches its performance intentions.
This Toronto Red M4 Competition is exactly what a complete BMW M build should look like. Comprehensive front-end PPF coverage protects the panels most likely to chip and scratch, premium ceramic tint and a high-end ceramic coating defend the paint and interior from the elements, and a coordinated package of carbon-fiber and CSL-inspired upgrades elevates the car’s already commanding visual presence. Every modification serves a purpose, whether functional or aesthetic, and the execution reflects the precision and attention to detail that defines every project, leaving the Bulletproof Auto Spa facility in Los Angeles. This M4 is now ready for daily driving, weekend canyon runs, and the occasional track day, all while looking exactly as good five years from now as it does today.
